Call 988
When you call 988, you have four options:
- Press 1 to connect with the Veteran Crisis Hotline
- Press 2 to receive help in Spanish
- Press 3 if you are 25 and under and identify as a member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
The fourth option, which everyone else can use, is to remain on the line to connect with a local crisis center. You’ll also have the option to talk to a trained specialist with similar experiences.
Text
When you text 988, first, you’ll see a wait-time message while we connect you to a trained specialist. Texting is available in both English and Spanish. When texting 988 in Spanish, you will be asked to type “Ayuda” to connect with a spanish-speaking specialist.
Live Chat
Connect with a trained specialist over the internet. This service is available on the national site in both English and Spanish. The live chat process starts with a pre-chat survey. This survey helps your trained specialist know a bit more about you, what you’re going through, and how they might be able to assist you. Wait times will vary, but a trained specialist will connect with you as soon as possible. They’ll listen, support, and work with you to determine the best course of action. If needed, they’ll share some helpful tips or resources.
